SCALING UP: FROM SIMPLIFIED TO DIVERSIFIED VEGETABLES, GRAINS AND ANIMALS

As farmland preservation farmers, Colin and Genine grow produce and raise livestock on 60 acres of land at the Scatter Creek Farm and Conservancy in Rochester. Kirsop Farm sells diversified vegetables, dry beans, grains, pork, lamb and chicken through their CSA, online store and at Farmers Markets throughout the Seattle area including Columbia City, University District and Ballard Farmers Markets. They left the Tumwater land they farmed for 20 years in 2013 to be the anchor farmers in a project that preserves 150 acres of beautiful agricultural land and river habitat. Growing food on preserved land is so much more than they ever imagined and they can’t think of a better way to structure their lives and vocation, or a loftier goal, than to grow good food in collaboration with the earth itself.
